S̶U̶G̶A̶R̶
The Berlin-based music group SUGAR, a hybrid of chamber music ensemble and pop band led by Grégoire Simon, constantly moves between genres, mixing electronica, classical and contemporary classical music, improvisation and pop songs without hierarchy. Original works, arrangements and new compositions make original and bold connections and reveal unexpected new facets in their juxtapositions.
Original quartet line-up with Boram Lie ( cello, electric bass, vocals), Paul Valikoski ( electric guitar, violin, vocals), Ole Brolin ( electronics, guitar, vocals) and Grégoire Simon ( keyboard, viola, vocals & conception).

SUGAR plays SLOW ( feat. Yannick Rafalimanana ) is a journey through 20th century French music, rearranged for piano, synthesizer, cello, electronics and electric guitar. With a mixture of classical repertoire ( C. Debussy, M. Ravel, O. Messiaen ) and interludes by SUGAR, the programme consists exclusively of slow pieces that immerse the listener in a stretched temporality. Slowness can be experienced in its intimacy ( ...des pas sur la neige by Debussy ) or monumentality ( Le Banquet Céleste by Messiaen ), in its gentleness ( Soupir by Ravel ) or tragedy ( La Cathédrale engloutie by Debussy ).
